Company Profile
EMC Insurance Companies has been writing reinsurance since 1957; EMC Reinsurance Company (EMC Re) was formed in 1981.

EMC Re does business with approximately 20 reinsurance intermediaries and has long-term relationships with several pool facilities. Most of the company’s reinsurance business is in domestic U.S. companies; 6 percent of the book of business is international. EMC Re is rated “A- Excellent” by A.M. Best Company.

Currently, all voluntary reinsurance is ceded to EMC Re through an internal quota share agreement. Guideline maximum per program is $1,500,000 (plus) on “quality accounts.”

EMC Re is wholly owned by EMC Insurance Group Inc., a holding company whose common stock trades on the NASDAQ National Market tier of The NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol EMCI.
