Who We Are

EMC Insurance Group Inc. (EMCI) is a publicly-held holding company that conducts operations in property and casualty insurance and reinsurance through our subsidiaries.

We primarily focus on the sale of commercial lines of property and casualty insurance to small- and medium-sized businesses. We sell these products through independent insurance agents who are supported by our decentralized network of branch offices. We actively market our insurance products in 41 states; however, the majority of our business is generated in the Midwest.

Our insurance operations are conducted together with property and casualty insurance operations of our parent corporation, Employers Mutual Casualty Company, we operate collectively under the trade name EMC Insurance Companies. Employers Mutual Casualty Company, established in 1911, is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.

EMCI has no employees of its own; however, the parent organization employs approximately 2,200 people countrywide. EMCI was formed in 1974 and became publicly held in 1982.
