Margaret Ball’s career in insurance spans more than 40 years.
She retired from EMCC in 2001 as senior vice president of underwriting.
She received her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
designation as well as many other insurance designations. Ball was
inducted into the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame in 2002.
George C. Carpenter III was executive director
of Iowa Public Television from November 1985 until his retirement in
1993. Prior to that time, he served as vice president of Palmer
Communications and as vice president and general manager of WHO
Broadcasting Company, a division of Palmer Communications. He was
employed by WHO Broadcasting Company for 20 years.
Bruce G. Kelley is president and chief
executive officer of EMC Insurance Group Inc. and of Employers Mutual
since 1992. He was treasurer of Employers Mutual from 1996 until 2000,
and of EMC Insurance Group Inc. from 1996 until 2001. He was president
and chief operating officer of EMC Insurance Group and of Employers
Mutual from 1991 to 1992 and was executive vice president of both
companies from 1989 to 1991. Kelley has been employed by Employers
Mutual since 1985 and has been a director of the company since 1984.
Gretchen H. Tegeler served as a director of EMC National Life Company from 2003
until her appointment to Group's board. Since 2002, Ms. Tegeler has served as State
Vice President, Midwest Division,
of the American Cancer Society, serving Iowa and South Dakota. Ms. Tegeler was
Director, Government Relations, 1999-2002; and Director of Business Development,
1999-2000 for McLeod USA Telecommunications, Inc. She was Chief of Staff to Iowa
Governor, Terry E. Brandstad, 1998-1999; and Director, Iowa Department of Management,
1990-1998.
Raymond A. Michel is a member of the Board of
Directors of Koss Construction Company, a highway and airport
construction firm, and was its chairman and chief executive officer from
1972 until his retirement in 1989. He has been affiliated with Koss
Construction in one capacity or another since 1955.
Robert L. Howe spent thirty-eight years at the Iowa Insurance Division. He
retired in 2002 as the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Examiner. Following his retirement
from the Division, Mr. Howe became an insurance industry consultant with Insurance
Strategies Consulting, L.L.C. Mr. Howe is a Certified Financial Examiner, a Certified
Insurance Examiner and a Certified Government Financial Manager.
Stephen A. Crane is an independent corporate governance consultant who has had over
30 years of experience in the property and casualty insurance business. He was CEO of
AlphaStar Insurance Group Limited from 1999 to 2004. Prior to that, he served as CEO of
Gryphon Holdings Inc. and G.L. Hodson & Son. He was also CFO of Corron & Black
Corporation and Orion Capital Corporation. He is a member of the Board of Directors of
First Security Benefit Life Insurance and Annuity Company of New York, WNC Holding Corp.
and Green Bullion Financial Services, LLC.
